Why is Orientation important?

Summer Orientation is an indispensable resource for all students. Students who attend Orientation feel better prepared, encounter fewer problems, and receive priority registration for fall quarter class enrollment before those who do not attend Orientation. Allow us to welcome you, and learn fundamental information needed to have a successful career at UC Santa Cruz. We urge you to make every effort to have your student join us during Summer Orientation.

The Orientation Office recognizes the vital role family members play in their student’s successful transition to college life. To inform families about the university and all of its resources and services, we offer a one-day Family Orientation Program that runs concurrently with, but separately from the student program. The Family Orientation session is designed to assist family members in gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to reinforce a sense of family support during your student’s time at UC Santa Cruz. Therefore, the Family Orientation targets family members who will be assisting their students.

The student can register for orientation via their MyUCSC portal. All information related to Orientation- such as deadlines to enroll, cancellation and refund policies, and much more- has been or will be sent to your student via email.
